Dr. Andrew Hanna is our newest addition to the Alamo Maxillofacial Associates family. He practices mainly at the Methodist Plaza location. Dr. Hanna has completed extensive education and training to become an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon.
His passion for the specialty started early when he assisted his father who is an Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon himself in the operating room. Dr. Hanna was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. He completed five years of Dental School at Ain Shams University earning a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S) in 2007. He then joined a private practice in Cairo practicing general dentistry for one year. In pursue of his dream to become a well-trained Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, he moved to the USA to complete an additional two year program that was available for the Internationally trained dentists. He successfully completed the program with honors graduating from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S) in 2010.
Dr. Hanna stayed in San Antonio to complete a six-year residency training program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the UT Health Science Center. His training required matriculation in Medical School which he completed in 2013 earning his Medical Degree (M.D). He also completed one year of General Surgery internship and Anesthesia training. Dr. Hanna’s surgical training was broad scope involving all areas of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specialty with heavy emphasis on dental implants, facial trauma and reconstruction, corrective jaw surgery and the surgical management of Tempromandibular joint disorders. To complement his training, Dr. Hanna participated in a medical mission trip to Neiva, Colombia and provided surgical care to several children with craniofacial deformities.
Dr. Hanna maintains admitting and operating privileges at Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital in the Medical Center and Stone Oak Methodist Hospital. He is currently a candidate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Hanna remains active in the community and provides surgical care to patients in underserved areas in town.
Dr. Hanna has a publication in the Journal or Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and others currently in progress. He has also presented at several regional and national meetings on topics such as corrective jaw surgery, dental implantology, bone grafting and jaw reconstruction. He is a member of many national, regional and local organizations of the profession; the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (TSOMS), American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association and his local dental society (SADDS).
Dr. Hanna’s love for his family is nothing less than his profession. He is married to his wife Sandra who is a dentist in private practice and blessed with his son Luke. When not operating, Dr. Hanna enjoys travelling, swimming and playing soccer. He also remains active within his church community.
Dr. Hanna’s passion for cosmetic surgery leads him to pursue further training. Dr. Hanna will be going to Los Angeles, California for one year to pursue fellowship training in facial and full body cosmetic surgery. At the conclusion of his training, he will be able to expand his scope of practice and offer cosmetic surgery services to his patients.
