Robert P. Johnson, DDS, MSD

A retired Air Force Colonel, Robert Johnson received his undergraduate degree from Fairmont State College and Potomac State College in 1951 and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry in 1955. From 1955-1956, he completed a rotating internship at Walter Reed Army Hospital. His residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery included the Graduate School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1963 and completed at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center (1963-66). He later became Chairman of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Director of the Residency training program (1976 – 1980). During this time frame, he was also a Consultant to the USAF Surgeon General (1976-80). He retired following a distinguished 25-year military career. Dr. Johnson is a Clinical Associate Professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (1967) and also a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. In addition to his national professional organizations, he is a member of the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and The Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Johnson is a well-known lecturer both locally and nationally. He has authored and co-authored numerous journal publications and text book chapters and is well versed in all areas of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Although his practice includes all oral and maxillofacial surgery including facial reconstruction, a major part of Dr. Johnson’s practice stems from his extensive research and pioneer efforts in the evaluation and management of oral pathology. He maintains staff privileges at Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital. He has been in private practice since 1980 in the San Antonio area. Dr. Johnson’s outside interests include golf, fishing and family activities with his wife, two daughters and four grandchildren.
